We spent a week in a log cabin in Townsend, Tennessee about a mile from the entrance to the Smoky Mountain National Park. We left Saturday morning and drove to Meridian, Mississippi where we stayed the night, then finished the trip to Townsend on Sunday, arriving at the cabin around 4pm. Total driving time about 18 hours. The phrase are we there yet? came up a few thousand times, so we would put another DVD in the player, toss some snacks back there and make the occasional pit stop, but overall the kids travelled really well and it was a good drive. Returning home we drove straight through from Tennessee, through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and finally to Katy, total time on the road was 17 hours including a few stops. Note to self: fly next time.
